Styrofoam Sculptures

Check out these cool sculptures created from styrofoam. People always amaze me! How does one look at packaging innards from a DVD player and think.. ROBOT! HUMMER! TREE! ?

Sad Robot

There’s absolutely nothing sadder than a sad robot.

Don’t you just want to shnuggle him and tell him everything will be okay? He was created by Little Brown Byrd Creations on Etsy although it looks like somebody already scooped him up for some consoling.

But don’t fret, there’s still a darling little nerdbot for purchase. And while I can’t relate to him as much, I think he probably understands my moth obsession.

Traveling Moleskine

moleskine

Today is the final day for the Traveling Moleskine® project, organized by Culture Vulture and The Big Draw.  The project involves a number of notebooks which were assigned a theme and then sent out into the world to be passed from one artistic hand to another. Once the notebooks are returned, a fundraiser dinner and exhibition will be held to view the completed pages and raise funds for The Campaign for Drawing.

Below are a few photos from participants who posted on the project’s Flickr site. My favorite is Owen Gatley’s Secrets and Lies. But I was already a fan of his before this.

Jellyfish from the Year 12000

jelly

Come to the Poor Yorick art studios Friday or Saturday to see the funky Jellyfish from the year 12000. Kell has logged quite a few hours helping our mad scientist friend Jared and his crew convert an old van into this amazing art car. Aside from manual labor he did the coding for the lights. Come check it out!

Scott Avett Art

I spent last night perched on a grassy hill, drinking wine and listening to the Avett Brothers. As always, they provided fantastic folk melodies and incredible doses of punk-level energy. How a person can sing, play guitar or banjo and stomp on a kick drum all at the same time, at differing tempos, is beyond me. More talent exists in those two brothers than in my entire bloodline.

And as if I needed proof, today I stumbled across Scott Avett’s art work and its pretty damn impressive. Some guys have it all..

Leia Bell Magnets

Saturday SLUG hosted a spectacular Craft Lake City event with local artists and craftsman from the Salt Lake area. I couldn’t resist adding more Leia Bell magnets to my current collection. Maybe one day I’ll actually own a print or painting! Check out her site to browse and purchase her works.

Here are the magnets that I took home:

Sepia Lepus

Well, I’m getting pretty amped up to get down in Mexico. And so how do I prepare… Packing? Naw. Researching the area? Nope. Exercising to get bikini-ready? Pshaw! Looking for pics and videos of whale sharks? You know it!

And what a pleasant surprise when my quest brought me to the art work of Sepia Lepus.  Her images are charming little morsels with attention to placement and pattern. A courageous little white bunny is the central figure in many of her prints. Imagine that James Bond hooked up with a mermaid and they had a baby bunny.. this would be him. He saddles pigs to fight dragons and dives with sea creatures. And frankly, I think that’s pretty great.

The images below (and many more) are available for next to nothing on her Etsy page.

Dan McCarthy: Dark Days

I love this print that was released by Dan McCarthy, last month. The sky has the appearance of  ink mixing with water, the ocean is made up of repetitive waves sealed under a straight, flat horizon and the squid looks like he’s either deranged or on some serious psychedelics.
