Steampunk Insects

RutelidaeP108

Yay! Two of my favorite things together at last! Mike Libby, starts with real insects from around the world which he dissects and restructures using old pocket and wristwatch parts. You can purchase his pieces at Insect Lab, for between $375 – $2200. If that’s too rich for your blood, consider one of his giclee prints. The grasshopper is my favorite (and most expensive, of course). I love the little gears and springs on his hind legs.

Monster Line-Up

I’m having a hard time getting into my usual happy Halloween frenzy. Maybe some Halloweeny posts will help.

I’m sure some movie geek out there can comment on how accurate this chart is. I have no idea. What I do know is that it’s a totally sweet idea! If you’re really wild about the design, you can get it on your very own shirt, here.

Styrofoam Sculptures

Check out these cool sculptures created from styrofoam. People always amaze me! How does one look at packaging innards from a DVD player and think.. ROBOT! HUMMER! TREE! ?

Lucky Bunny Worldwide

The last week has been sucktacular. And what do I do when I have a bad day? Well, the same thing that every woman does – shop. I love these shirts of bunnies getting rowdy created by Rich DeSimone. Could there be a better lineup for Battle Bunny? My sweet friend Melaney purchased the tank bunny for me awhile back and I just bought the buckin’ bunny. You can purchase these and others at his Etsy shop, Lucky Bunny Worldwide. Yeehaw!

Sad Robot

There’s absolutely nothing sadder than a sad robot.

Don’t you just want to shnuggle him and tell him everything will be okay? He was created by Little Brown Byrd Creations on Etsy although it looks like somebody already scooped him up for some consoling.

But don’t fret, there’s still a darling little nerdbot for purchase. And while I can’t relate to him as much, I think he probably understands my moth obsession.

Ani Ostendorff Ceramics

Ani Ostendorff is a Salt Lake artist who makes fantastic ceramics inspired by her garden and environmental concerns. I absolutely love the Seuss-like curves and rich complex colors of her pieces. And best of all, this is art you can use! All of her pieces are microwave, dishwasher and food safe.  Her work is available for purchase at her Etsy shop.

Traveling Moleskine

moleskine

Today is the final day for the Traveling Moleskine® project, organized by Culture Vulture and The Big Draw.  The project involves a number of notebooks which were assigned a theme and then sent out into the world to be passed from one artistic hand to another. Once the notebooks are returned, a fundraiser dinner and exhibition will be held to view the completed pages and raise funds for The Campaign for Drawing.

Below are a few photos from participants who posted on the project’s Flickr site. My favorite is Owen Gatley’s Secrets and Lies. But I was already a fan of his before this.

Jellyfish from the Year 12000

jelly

Come to the Poor Yorick art studios Friday or Saturday to see the funky Jellyfish from the year 12000. Kell has logged quite a few hours helping our mad scientist friend Jared and his crew convert an old van into this amazing art car. Aside from manual labor he did the coding for the lights. Come check it out!
