Still working on the Mexico posts but ran across this today and thought I’d share. It’s a 60 Minutes clip from January that talks about how red wine and calorie restriction work to extend health and life. Not that we need any more humans on this earth at one time. Fascinating nonetheless.

Well, I’m getting pretty amped up to get down in Mexico. And so how do I prepare… Packing? Naw. Researching the area? Nope. Exercising to get bikini-ready? Pshaw! Looking for pics and videos of whale sharks? You know it!
And what a pleasant surprise when my quest brought me to the art work of Sepia Lepus. Her images are charming little morsels with attention to placement and pattern. A courageous little white bunny is the central figure in many of her prints. Imagine that James Bond hooked up with a mermaid and they had a baby bunny.. this would be him. He saddles pigs to fight dragons and dives with sea creatures. And frankly, I think that’s pretty great.
The images below (and many more) are available for next to nothing on her Etsy page.

*I lost a good deal of fidelity in the Arctic print when shrinking to post.

Portrait of Felix
I love this print that was released by Dan McCarthy, last month. The sky has the appearance of ink mixing with water, the ocean is made up of repetitive waves sealed under a straight, flat horizon and the squid looks like he’s either deranged or on some serious psychedelics.

Dark Days
I love sharing music but hate writing about it. So instead I’ve decided to periodically just post a short stack of current favorites and leave the analysis up to you.
Below are some songs that I’ve been loving on over the past few weeks.

I caught this awesome story while listening to NPR on the way to work this morning. Joel Nagtegaal and a couple of other Vancouver Canucks fans decided to donate a goat to Kenya to mark each win, hoping to donate 16 goats total. But after the creation of a facebook page and website, others got involved and the effort quickly spun out of control, bringing their current goat count to 956! According to their post on Monday, you can still get involved. Oh and I love their slogan: Facial Hair For World Peace.
From their ABOUT US section:
With the Vancouver Canucks set to make a deep run into the play offs, we are looking for something that will help drum up support in areas of the world where they play hockey with one piece sticks that are literally just sticks… and use empty turtle shells as pucks. Well… probably. Anyways, since it is tradition that during the play offs we grow a play off beard or a goatee, the goal is to buy a goat for a family living in poverty for every Canucks win. That’s 4 goats per round x 4 rounds = 16 goats. Each goat is $25 for a total of $400. A small price to pay for winning the Cup. The more people that get in on this, the cheaper it will be. Also, if Vancovuer wins the cup we are buying a village an elephant. If you don’t have money, or facial hair, that’s okay. Then just join the group for fun and support.
This is going to be incredible. Now were am I going to get 450 bones…

This past week I’ve been loving the art work of Alex Cherry (Of Sound and Vision), a 23 year old from Los Angeles. He uses Photoshop and Illustrator to create gritty yet ethereal images. Some of the images on his Flickr account are subtitled with band names. I’m not sure if he is doing work for these bands or just using them as inspiration, but either way, the kid can obviously rawk. You can purchase prints at DiviantART.

Flying Whales

Death Rides a Horse

Pitchfork posted this cool little video for my favorite Bowerbirds song, “In Our Talons”. I love the praying mantises who work out their differences while a burning forest rages behind them. The scene seems both somber and hopeful placed next to lyrics like, It takes a lot of nerve to destroy this wondrous earth /We’re only human; this at least we’ve learned.
